KidsWorks rehearses during the day. The performance commitment is substantial: the Pre-Show goes on four or more times a week, Thursdays thru Sundays. The total time commitment can run 12 weeks.

Desert Theatreworks' KidsWorks Programs are more than a training ground for the arts; it is a safe and nurturing environment where community is emphasized, friendship valued, and personal growth celebrated. We see it as the ideal place for children to learn about the arts and develop creative skills.

KidsWorks is made up of performers aged 6 to 19. Desert Theatreworks looks for a balance of ages, sizes, genders and ethnicities, as well as talent. Formal voice and dance training is not a pre-requisite for acceptance into KidsWorks. Other attributes sought in KidsWorks members: potential, motivation, maturity, courtesy and commitment.

Questions About KidsWorks?

Desert Theatreworks (DTW), Coachella Valley's inclusive 501(c)3 non-profit theatre, seeks donations and sponsors for KIDSWORKS, a tuition-free education program for ages 7-19.

What is Kidsworks?
Beginning October 2016, DTW began a new children's theatre education program entitled KIDSWORKS. The program is designed for youth aged 7-19 yrs who will audition to become part of the KIDSWORKS company.  The children receive acting, singing and dance training in order to present productions at the conclusion of the session. The style is always musical theatre; however the music and material cover many genres.  DTW will has multiple credentialed theatre instructors, costumers and supervisory staff who are all pre-screened to work with Children.  The KIDSWORKS program has multiple auditions throughout the year to accept new members, giving more opportunity to all in the Valley.

Why Kidsworks?  "Growing up in Fresno, CA.  I was always jealous of the other kids who performed at GOOD COMPANY PLAYERS JUNIOR COMPANY.  They were learning fundamentals of theatre performance and getting a big chance to perform in front of large audiences." says Artistic Director Lance Phillips-Martinez.  "I set up Kidsworks to be a training ground for younger performers who have the talent and drive, but could not afford the high tuition prices currently offered by other local theatres and dance studios.  Kidsworks should be a jump start to any student who wants to be in the performing arts." Our program focuses on all forms of theatrical production, teaching children camaraderie, leaderships skill, and produces lasting bonds between campers. DTW instructors are trained in helping children overcome shyness and assist them with any learning obstacles, bringing out the best in the student. We at DTW wish all provide have a life-changing experience through use of the arts and are happy to provide this unique opportunity.

How does my donation help?
Your donation will help DTW make the program tuition free!  There are many expenses to cover for this program, including:  instructors, costuming, musicians, royalties, and rehearsal space.  These expenses are continuous as long as the program is running.  Your donation is not only needed for the program, but sincerely appreciated.
